Welcome! Willkommen! Bienvenue!
Glad you are here. So you need a translation and want the result to be not only linguistically and technically correct but also stylistically appropriate? You also need it to meet your specific requirements? You've come to the right place.
As a qualified translator with a master's degree, I translate texts for businesses and individuals from English and French into German.
I look forward to hearing from you and to our successful cooperation.
My Services
Translation
I provide translations into German for a wide range of texts in general language, including private and business correspondence, articles, and popular science texts. My translations are precise in content and stylistically confident, suitable for any context.
When translating your external corporate communications, such as brochures, websites, newsletters and press releases, I consider your company's individual terminology and style guidelines and ensure that the translated content is appropriate for your target audience. This enables you to benefit from translations that effectively target your customers.
Specialized translation
Specialized translations require more than language expertise. They also require an understanding of the specific requirements of this type of text.
In addition to an understanding of the content that is to be translated, this includes specialist vocabulary in both the source and target languages. Furthermore, specialist texts may differ stylistically from general language usage. Those familiar with this research terminology and parallel texts and thus ensure precise and stylistically accurate translations.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any queries you may have on any subject matter, with the exception of legal and medical texts. Depending on the volume of your order, I am happy to familiarise myself with new areas. As a responsible translator, I will not accept a translation job that I cannot handle.
Subtitling
Professionally created subtitles take into account that viewers have a limited capacity to process information in a given period of time. In addition, other factors, such as editing, are taken into account to ensure that the subtitles are easy to read.
Unfortunately, due to time constraints, it is not always possible to reproduce the spoken word in full. Subtitling is therefore often a question of finding the most effective way of accurately rendering the essential points in a clear and meaningful manner.
I can provide subtitles for any type of video, including promotional or training videos, films or series. With my subtitles your viewers will be able to follow the content of your videos easily.

Info
The use of modern translation technologies facilitates my work. The CAT tools I employ are not to be confused with machine translation (MT). Rather, they support me by automatically recognizing terminology based on manually created terminology databases and storing manually translated texts in a translation memory, which can then be referenced for further translations.
I am confident that you will be satisfied with my translation, given that we discussed your preferences and specifications beforehand and, in some cases, during the process.
In the unlikely case that you are dissatisfied with the translation, I can offer a final revision free of charge.
Please be aware that your assistance during the translation process could have a significant impact on the final result. Furthermore, I feel only obliged to provide a free revision of the translation if all relevant information was provided to me during or before the translation.
It goes without saying that your data and documents will be treated confidentially. This includes that I am exclusively using offline tools. This means that your texts only leave my PC to be transferred to you.
German translations of English texts are usually around 20% longer than the original. One of the reasons for this is that German uses more subordinate clauses and words are generally longer.
If it is important for your translation that the word count of the source text is not exceeded, the translation must be adapted accordingly. Please be sure to mention such requirements, when you place an order.
I will provide support in any way I can, even if the deadline is tight.
However, translations due on the next day result in additional work that is not always is not always considered from the outside.
I kindly request your understanding that a 100% surcharge is usually applied to rush orders.
Please be aware that a surcharge may apply to parts of an order if the desired delivery date requires more than 2,000 words (or 1,000 words for specialized translations) to be translated each day. Should I be able to accept such an order, I will provide a transparent calculation of the surcharges.
I typically only translate from my working languages into German. In rare instances, I may translate from German into a foreign language at the client's request.
The most straightforward solution is for you to deliver your text in .docx format, although alternative file types are acceptable. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any queries.
It is crucial that your source text is in an editable format that can be converted automatically. Image files are therefore not suitable for this purpose. If the use of image files is unavoidable, these must be transcribed before translation. I charge €50 per hour for transcription.
Unless otherwise agreed, and provided that you have delivered your source text in one of the supported file formats, the translation you receive will correspond to the original in terms of format and formatting.
The price you will pay for translation is based on the word count of your text.
In the German-speaking world, billing per standard line is a common practice. However, this approach is not entirely transparent to the client, as the length of the translated text cannot be accurately determined in advance (see Deviating text length of translations).
Using price per word of the source text makes invoicing more transparent for you and helps you to plan your costs ahead.
The cost of a translation is dependent on a number of variables, including the complexity of the source text, the timeframe and the format in which it is provided. I am therefore unable to provide a quote until I have all the necessary information regarding your order.
As part of an ongoing collaboration, I am are pleased to offer a fixed rate for your translations. This eliminates the need for recalculation, allowing you to plan your costs more effectively.
See price per word.
A translation memory is a database in which translated text segments are stored together with their foreign-language counterparts. These databases can be opened in a CAT tool in order to use the saved segments as a reference for further translations.
Technical terms and their translations are stored and managed in a terminology database. This database can be loaded into CAT tools, which support the recognition of terminology and the translation of subject-specific terms.
Preferred payment method: Bank transfer.
For orders of 5,000 words or more, a deposit of 50% is required. For very large orders, partial deliveries can be arranged.
